O Lord, you are my lamp.
The Lord lights up my darkness.  2 Samuel 22:29, NLT

David sang these words, recorded in 2 Samuel 22:29, to the Lord in celebration of his rescue from his enemies and from Saul. This Advent, I decided to borrow David’s words to remind myself of the light of the Lord in this world of ours so fraught with darkness.

O Lord, December looms gray this year as Omicron concerns hover.

You are my lamp. You light up my darkness.

I feel so weary of the mask/vaccine discussion and the darkness of mistrust and fear and misunderstanding it brings in its wake.

You are my lamp. You light up my darkness.

My grief and tears comes stealthily in this season as memories of loved ones surface.

You are my lamp. You light up my darkness.

Even nature has turned cold, gray, and sterile.

You are my lamp. You light up my darkness.

O Lord, give me eyes to see beyond these dark days.

You are my lamp. You light up my darkness.

Help the deep parts of me understand that experiencing darkness primes me to recognize light.

You are my lamp. You light up my darkness.

O Lord, wake me each morning this Advent with Your light.

You are my lamp. You light up my darkness.

Light of the World, pierce our dark, weary world and hearts again and again and again with your radiant light this Advent.
